Four-row cylindrical roller bearings are almost exclusively used in the roll necks of rolling stands, calenders and roller presses. Since these bearings are typically mounted with an interference fit on the roll neck, four-row cylindrical roller bearings are particularly suitable for rolling mill applications where rolling speeds are high.
Since four-row cylindrical roller bearings can only carry radial loads, they are installed with deep groove or angular contact ball bearings, or with tapered roller bearings (radial or thrust design) that carry axial loads.
Due to the large number of rollers, four-row cylindrical roller bearings are suitable for very heavy radial loads.
The open rib design and roller end design and surface finish facilitate lubricant film formation, resulting in lower friction.
The logarithmic roller profile reduces edge stresses at the roller/raceway contact, and the logarithmic profile also helps the bearing withstand misalignment and shaft deflection.
The surface treatment of the roller and raceway contact surfaces is conducive to the formation of hydrodynamic lubricating oil film.
The separate components of four-row cylindrical roller bearings are interchangeable. This facilitates installation, disassembly and maintenance inspection.
Cage design is suitable for high speeds, rapid acceleration and shock loads.
The low cross-sectional height of four-row cylindrical roller bearings allows the use of larger roller neck diameters compared to the roller diameters.
